Tunisian Crochet: My new yarns’ happy home...
...It’s the best of weaving without the loom, knitting without the extra needles, and crocheting without the doilies!
It’s been a long, sub-zero-type cold winter here in the San Luis valley of southern Colorado. Nothing really new about that. However, what is new is gaining a love of crochet over the last months. To be more precise, Tunisian crochet. I had seen the term before, and it registered in my brain with images of some long-lost culture somewhere.. And probably written in hieroglyphics. Definitely not interested.
But then (I just love But-thens), I happened on a smiling, bubbly beautiful face on Insta. There, in her bright, shiny, and invitingly colorful studio she beaconed me into an experience which was like a joy-filled yarn-tagious Happy Hour with your besties!
Toni Lipsey of TL YarnCrafts has, over this winter, managed to inspire me to do a plethora of feats that I would have not believed possible. Like “crochet” for one! She has motivated me to crochet a garment for myself (what?); complete a whole Mastery course in Tunisian crochet (I struggle to completely make a whole bed); complete a crochet-along; buy some very cool tools; invest the time in learning more about my business; and write & actually publish an original Tunisian crochet pattern
Check out her www.tlycblog.com website for soooo much goodness...fresh patterns with encouraging video support, her new Podcast, yarn and tool reviews and quite simply, an enthusiastic sisterhood of yarn fun! And give Tunisian crochet a try... yet another excuse to enjoy ALL the Yarn!
We had a great group visit RealYarn studio today!

A minute of "free time"... you know, that tiny window of opportunity to justify working on a project, organize a closet, put Valentine's decor away (what!! it's almost April, woman!). Our busy lives often prevent thinking in terms of free time.
When I analyze the cost-benefit ratios of ways to spend my precious little bits of un-assigned time segments, finishing my fiber world UFO isn't always a priority; actually often actively avoided..until I desperately need the employed knitting needles being hoarded by said UFO!
What's your UFO experience?
Three months of fiber fun for your bestie or for yourself! Enjoy a new yarn delivered to you each month. 150 - 200 yards of my best handspun. Angora, Alpaca, or Sheep's wool, and now available Arizona's Pima cotton for your creative energy!
An easy beginner's pattern: Wind Valley Headband
This is a great project for a beginning Tunisian crochet enthusiast who is ready to "level up". It's a quick little bandana style headband that's great for gifting since one size fits literally All.
You will only need about 75 yards of bulky yarn and a size "F" 3.75mm crochet hook. Yes, that's a small hook for this yarn, but it's designed to make a very tight fabric to be truly wind-proof.
The yarn in the example shown is from Knit Picks. It was their Bare wool of the Andes Bulky and we had a blast dyeing it fun colors!

- All the crew here-
Winter Sky is a reflection of our southern Colorado winter landscape...
I wove this rug from my own handspun yarn. Naturally-colored fleece in ranges from frosty white to dark grays and black with some hand-dyed blues for contrast.
While decorative for a wall hanging or accent piece, my rugs are created for real feet on real floors...try one next to your bed...soothing to the sole!
This rug is 68" x 32"
100% natural wool weft spun on a undyed cotton warp.
Be sure to ask for your gift to be wrapped this month...I will specially wrap your gift and include special note from you & RealYarn in your package!
